BETTING ONLINE IN NEW ZEALAND
For a long time gambling was prohibited in New Zealand. Till the year 1920, sports betting were declared illegal until the Totalisator Agency Board (TAB) was awarded the monopoly to run pari-mutuel betting at race tracks through a number of local organizations owned by state governments.
Gambling began to prosper from the year 1990 in New Zealand with the opening of its first casino in 1994 followed in 1996 with the permission of TAB to offer fixed odds betting and sports betting. Later in the year 2003, the New Zealand Racing Board took over the operations. In a view to provide safe surface to gambling, the Totalisator Agency Board (TAB) took the responsibilities to promote the racing industry.
